The term responsive designs have been conventional in the field of web designing for a few years. Most web designers today are well versed in making the site completely responsive. But a lot of website owners don't know the term responsive design and the importance of this.

What is responsive design?

With the increased use of smart devices of varying screen sizes, the number of users accessing the website using these devices also increased. Before this, websites mainly got designed to work on desktops with similar screen sizes. Once different sized devices came into existence, the need for a website to match each screen size became a necessity. However, it is not practical to design a separate website for hundreds of available sizes. So a dynamic design that can change based on the device used to access it came into existence known as responsive design.

Why is a responsive design a must-have?

  • Lack of responsiveness can affect the usability: The websites are designed in by placing elements in different places. When the screen size gets smaller, it gets difficult to identify various aspects which in turn affect the usability.
  • Better search engine rankings: The responsiveness of a website has a direct effect on its search engine rankings. Google gives a better ranking to the mobile-friendly websites.
  • Easy to manage and update: It is always easy to manage a single website than multiple ones. When you have different versions of the site to match screen sizes, every change needs to get done numerous times. When you have a responsive device, any change done gets done for all screen sizes.
  • Better reputation: The last thing you want is to lose a customer because of a non-responsive and hard to use the website. Responsive design makes the site available entirely for all types of devices. Your business gets a better impression through a responsive design as the website is the first point of contact with your potential customers.
